Rapid assessment of nonlinear optical propagation effects in dielectrics
Ultrafast laser processing applications need fast approaches to assess the nonlinear propagation of the laser beam in order to predict the optimal range of processing parameters in a wide variety of cases. We develop here a method based on the simple monitoring of the nonlinear beam shaping against numerical prediction. The numerical code solves the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with nonlinear...
متن کاملPropagation limitations in all-optical networks due to nonlinear effects
The subject of this PhD thesis is the study of the impact of the nonlinearity in the performance of an optical telecom system. In particular the FWM phenomenon which is detrimental in WDM systems is analyzed theoretically and numerically, while various methods are proposed for its compensation. Finally the stability of nonlinear soliton pulses in CROWs is proposed in order to realize compact op...
متن کاملNonlinear optical beam propagation for optical limiting.
We implement numerical modeling of high-energy laser-pulse propagation through bulk nonlinear optical materials using focused beams. An executable program with a graphical user interface is made available to researchers for modeling the propagation of beams through materials much thicker than the diffraction length (up to 10(3) times longer). Ultrafast nonlinearities of the bound-electronic Ker...
متن کاملNonlinear pulse propagation in optical fibers.
We discuss the propagation of nonlinear optical pulses in fibers. The wave equation is solved taking the radial dependence in an average way. The radius versus wavelength curves for "no dispersion" in SiO(2) glass are calculated and plotted. These no-dispersion curves separate the regions of light and dark solitons supported by the fibers.
متن کاملOptical pulse propagation in nonlinear photonic crystals.
We present a formalism for optical pulse propagation in nonlinear photonic crystals of arbitrary dimensionality. Using a multiple-scale analysis, we derive the dynamical nonlinear Schrödinger equation obeyed by the envelope function modulating an underlying Bloch function. Effective coefficients appear in that equation characterizing the effects of Kerr nonlinearity, linear gain or loss, and ma...
